Opinion Poll Results
Garden of the Month Award
After more than a week of voting in the opinion poll, as the vote below indicates, the membership is not enthusiastic about the idea of the Garden of the Month Award.
The final vote on a Garden of the Month Award was 26% for and 74% against. Below are the comments of those who responded to the poll.
Despite the lack of interest in the award, we are developing an idea that was suggested during the voting. On the Photo/Video page of this site, we will have a place for photos of your gardens. See the Photo/Video page for details about submitting your photos.
I couldn't stand the pressure of competition.
We may want to consider eyesore of the month and start with the home at the corner of Delgado and Tulane. I am sure we could follow up that incredible badge of neglect with a few homes that have cars parked all over the front lawn.
An insensitive suggestion. First things first. After cleaning up what Gustav left behind, we need to work together to end zoning violators and put a stop to trash and junk in driveways and cars parked on lawns and all over the streets. Then we may want to think about pretty yards.
Not against it at all, really, but I haven't the time to serve on a committee and so I can't ask others to take on what I won't.
I think now is a bad time to raise such an issue when a number of us have had our gardens, lawns, and homes damaged or destroyed by Gustav. It will be months before some neighbors can get back into their houses and a year before lawns and gardens decimated by falling trees and debris begin to resemble their pre-Gustav beauty.
I think the idea is great if there are people willing to serve on the committee... it might encourage people to dress up their yards.
I agree with the idea of putting pictures on our website rather than an award. We could either ask people to submit photos themselves and we could encourage people to put on photos of neighborhood activities and special holiday decorations. We could have a photo album like: "Our Friendly and Beautiful Neighborhood" and rotate the picture that goes on the "cover." I also agree with the person concerned with speeding in the neighborhood. What would be involved in getting more "Children at Play" signs?
I like the idea of the "Yard of the Month" I don't think we need a prize to go with it. We may want to make it less often than every month since someone will have to select the yard unless we can do it as a poll through the web site.
Garden of the month, no- yard of the month, no interest...
I believe quarterly is a better time frame. One month goes by too fast! I'll serve but please find a leader!
I believe it would be the same 4 yards over and over. I do not believe it would goad absent home-owners into doing more. Can someone please take care of the yard that you first see when you turn in on Delgado, and stop at the stop sign at Tulane?
There are more important issues facing our neighborhood. 1. Speeding, 2. Running stop signs 3. Cruelty to animals. 4. Trash being dumped on boulevard.
If there are people interested in doing this kind of project let'em have at it. at this point in time I will not be able to help with this project but will enjoy it... thanks to all who do work for the greater good.
Just think this is a bad idea and really does nothing further cohesiveness of the neighborhood. More activities like the Halloween party ... yes...
Great idea — many residence take pride in their landscape. It means a lot of time, energy and love.
I would like to have a section of beautiful gardens in our photos on the web page rather than a monthly prize.
