    Shaw Center for the Arts

    January 24, 2009 through April 19, 2009

Rodin: A Magnificent Obsession is a complete retrospective of the artist's career and includes more than 60 bronzes, from small studies to monumental works. The works were chosen according to major projects and themes of Rodin's career, such as The Gates of Hell, The Burghers of Calais, and partial figures. The exhibition spans the length of Rodin's career from his earliest bust of his father, Jean Baptiste Rodin, to his later studies of dancing figures. In addition to the bronzes, there are works on paper, photographs, portraits of the artist, and an educational model that demonstrates the complexities of the lost-wax casting process, Rodin's favored method of sculptural reproduction.

    Friday Feb. 6, 2009, 8 PM
    Saturday Feb. 7, 2009, 2 PM & 8 PM
    Sunday Feb. 8, 2009, 2 PM & 8 PM
    Cotillion Ballroom, LSU Union
  • Armed with catchy melodies, divine moves and gobs of hair product, Altar Boyz is a hilarious, holy-inspiring musical comedy about five small-town boys — Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham — trying to save the world one screaming fan at a time. Presented as a concert in real-time, Altar Boyz sweetly satirizes the phenomenon of boy bands, the popularity of Christian-themed music, and excessive product placement in contemporary American culture. The group’s amusingly pious pop act features slick dance moves, heavenly harmonies, and laugh-out-loud lyrics such as “Girl You Make Me Wanna Wait” and “Jesus Called Me on My Cell Phone.” But underneath the witty song parodies, slangy dialogue, and comically sexy dances, Altar Boyz offers an intricately constructed narrative about five young friends whose emotional and moral journeys bring them to a personal and professional crossroads.
